The 90-minute wilderness cruise ventures beyond Port Arthur to explore the breathtaking cliffs, caves, arches, and pristine white sand beaches of the Tasman Peninsula, all the way to Cape Raoul.
Sail past historic landmarks such as Point Puer and the Isle of the Dead, before soaking in the beauty of Safety Cove’s white sands and the towering dunes of Crescent Bay, nestled along the rugged coastline. Take in sweeping views of Cape Pillar and the iconic Tasman Island.
As we approach Cape Raoul, Mt Brown forms a striking backdrop. Marvel at the towering columnar dolerite cliffs, rising over 250 meters from the sea, and keep an eye out for playful Australian fur seals basking at their base.
Look to the skies for magnificent wildlife, including albatrosses, white-bellied sea eagles, and other seabirds gliding above. Stay alert for dolphins riding the boat’s bow waves and whales cruising the southeastern coast during their southern migration.
The Vessel
Port Arthur Explorer is a custom-built catamaran with enclosed seating and wheelchair accessibility. Full walk-around capacity for immersive views.
Self-Drive Departure Details
Cape Raoul Cruises departs from inside the Port Arthur Historic Site. Allow 90 minutes to drive from Hobart to the Port Arthur Historic Site, following the Arthur Highway. There is plenty of free parking available at the Historic Site.
The cruise departs from the Port Arthur Historic Site Jetty at 10:45 AM and 1:15PM. Please be waiting at the jetty 15 minutes prior to the chosen departure time.
Cruise Meeting Point
Port Arthur Historic Site Jetty. Please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure. Check-in with staff on the jetty.
Cape Raoul Cruises is on a yellow boat and will be branded with the Pennicott Wilderness Journeys logo. Guests need to arrive at the jetty to check-in with our crew 15 minutes prior to departure.
Morning Cruise: 10:45 AM – 12:15 PM.
Afternoon Cruise: 1:15 PM – 2:45 PM.
Hobart Pickup Package
This option includes return bus transfers from Hobart, wilderness cruise and around 6.5 hours at Port Arthur Historic Site.
- Departs 7.45am daily from Pennicott Wilderness Journeys Booking Centre at Dock Head Building, Franklin Wharf, Hobart.
- Departs Port Arthur at 4.45pm
- Arrives Hobart around 6pm.
Cape Raoul Cruise + Port Arthur Entry Package
Guests who book the Cape Raoul Cruise + Port Arthur Entry Package can show there booking confirmation at Port Arthur reception to enter the site.
The Historic Site staff will provide tickets for site entry and the Harbour Cruise.
The Harbour Cruise
The Harbour Cruise is included in the Site Entry and is a 20 minute journey on a white boat. This is separate to the Cape Raoul Cruise.
The Cape Raoul Cruise and Harbour Cruise both depart from the Port Arthur Historic Site jetty.
